Director of Democracy

Lauren‘s experience in the fields of policy and advocacy has allotted her to have a career that spans across the areas of political strategy, policy implementation and civic engagement. As Director of Democracy, she helps state legislators nationwide champion reforms for an equitable, inclusive, and participatory democracy. Prior to joining SiX, Lauren worked as MI Political Director for America Votes where she utilized strategic planning with several state and national level organizations to impact progressive electoral and policy work. In this role she also worked with state legislators as well as the Governor’s Administration to support legislative strategy around different issue advocacy areas such as voting rights, reproductive rights, environmental policy, minimum wage increase, paid sick leave and criminal justice reform. Lauren received her Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University where she focused her studies on Social Relations and Policy within James Madison College. She followed her undergraduate education receiving her Master of Arts in Public Policy from The New England College, where she focused her studies on economic analysis, the origins of democracy, and environmental politics and policy; with a specific emphasis on class, race, and poverty in America. Lauren also served as a Precinct Delegate for 4 years and is currently on her second term as a City Commissioner. Additionally, she serves on several boards including as a State Co-Chair on the National Advisory Board for Climate Power 2020 and the Michigan Action Team of the Michigan Coronavirus Taskforce on Racial Disparities.
