Celebrating 10 Years of State Directors — and What Comes Next
For the past decade, SiX has been proud to work alongside a remarkable team of State Directors, who have supported legislators and communities in driving change across every corner of the country. From expanding reproductive freedom to protecting democracy and amplifying the voices of historically excluded communities, the State Directors program has been a cornerstone of SiX’s work. The State Director model has been incredibly effective, but we must adapt to meet the demands of a moment that requires a more expansive and innovative approach, one that fully leverages our resources in the fight against authoritarianism.
Now, we’re taking this moment to both celebrate our legacy and pivot toward even greater effectiveness in 2025 and beyond. While the State Directors program is sunsetting, the wins it helped spark will continue to ripple forward through SiX’s new strategic vision. Our commitment to our legislators and their communities in all 50 states remains strong and is being reimagined to meet today’s challenges.
The current reality is clear: the fight against authoritarianism is not confined to a handful of states. Combatting this national threat requires a more expansive coalition that builds collective strength through local action. That’s why we’re adjusting our resources to be more nimble, expanding our reach to all 50 states while maintaining the depth that has defined our work. Shifts in the philanthropic landscape have created a pivotal opening for SiX to reimagine how we maximize our impact and strengthen the value we bring to legislators and communities nationwide.
This fall, SiX will be launching new initiatives to empower legislators across the country to protect communities, combat authoritarianism, and build a resilient democracy. Far from stepping back, we are doubling down, ensuring that every dollar, every staff role, and every partnership is focused on delivering the greatest impact for the people and communities who need it most.
We will be sharing more on those new initiatives and our organizational growth in the coming months. Designed with our network, responsive to emergent needs, and ultimately built for impact, our new initiatives—joined with our existing programs—will deliver sustainable programming that supports our network and strengthens our movement-building partnerships.
We are deeply grateful to every State Director who has carried this work over the last 10 years. Their contributions will always be part of SiX’s foundation, and their legacy is shaping this new chapter as we build a more responsive and more powerful SiX that will rise to today’s challenges and secure the victories of tomorrow.
