New Poll Finds Pennsylvanians Want Harrisburg to Advance Progressive Policies

According to a poll commissioned by the State Innovation Exchange (SiX) and conducted by TargetSmart, Pennsylvania voters support a wide range of policies in the state to raise wages, strengthen our democracy, reform the criminal justice system, and protect the environment.

Some highlights include:

  • 62% of voters support raising Pennsylvania’s minimum wage to fifteen dollars an hour over the next five years.
  • An enthusiastic 81% support expanding overtime pay (increasing the threshold under which employees are considered salaried, giving more Pennsylvania workers the opportunity to earn overtime pay). The most recent overtime proposal in Pennsylvania increases the minimum threshold to $47,000 a year. A majority of voters, 55%, strongly support the proposal.
  • An astounding 83% and 82% support increased requirements in civics classes in public schools and new election technology respectively.
  • 81% want the state to increase protections to ballot access, while 76% support getting big money from lobbyists and corporations out of state campaigns.
  • 65% want an Automatic Voter Registration program and 63% support early voting.
  • 61% believe gerrymandering is problematic and the legislature should address it.
  • 81% support criminal justice reforms, generally.

The State Innovation Exchange commissioned TargetSmart to complete the research.  The survey was conducted June 15-20, 2019, with over 1000 respondents and has a margin of error of +/- 2.95% at a 95% confidence level.
