Atlanta, GA – A statewide poll conducted by Change Research on behalf of a coalition of partners led by State Innovation Exchange, including the Georgia Alliance for Progress, 9to5 Georgia, and the Amplify Georgia Collaborative, finds that the majority of Georgians who are registered to vote support Medicaid expansion, abortion access, and housing standards for rentals.
The poll also found that most Georgians, across all backgrounds, would prefer public investments in services for their communities over keeping taxes low for wealthy and big corporations. Most voters also prefer to see the Georgia budget surplus invested in services over receiving it as tax rebates.
Toplines from the survey include:
Polling partner organizations offered the following statements:
State Innovation Exchange: “As the legislative session continues, it’s important that legislators and advocacy organizations alike have access to Georgia-specific polling results. It’s important to provide state legislators with timely information to make decisions informed by the voices and needs of their constituents,” said Alaina Reaves, Georgia State Director for SiX.
Georgia Alliance for Progress: "Georgians, especially Black Georgians, are progressive, just maybe not by name," said Ranada Robinson, Senior Director of Research & Strategy at the Georgia Alliance for Progress. "When it comes to our most salient issues, Black Georgians overwhelmingly support Medicaid expansion, rent control, and reproductive justice. It's clear that Black voters want the government to invest in public services for all rather than offer tax breaks to wealthy and large corporations. Now is the time to listen to Black Georgians and work towards a future where the government works for us all."
9to5 Georgia: “Georgia citizens expect their legislators to focus on working families. According to the data, if taxpayers had their way, then the State of Georgia would guarantee livable wages, ensure paid leave for all, improve living conditions, fully fund public schools, and make healthcare more accessible by expanding Medicaid — particularly when it comes to reproductive healthcare for women. All of these issues are intertwined. All Georgians deserve the time and resources to care for ourselves and our loved ones, without sacrificing peace of mind by losing income,” said Jasmine Bowles, Executive State Director of 9to5 Georgia.
Amplify Georgia Collaborative: “The data is undeniable. A resounding 76% of Georgia voters, and 85% of voters of color, agree that when someone has decided to have an abortion, the government should not interfere in that decision. And they want Georgia to pass a law affirming that we each have the right to make our own decisions about using contraception, having an abortion, and giving birth,” said Allison Coffman, Executive Director of the Amplify Georgia Collaborative. “Georgians are calling on leaders to prioritize what truly matters — an economy that works for all, livable housing and access to affordable healthcare, and protecting our reproductive health decisions."
